THE STRANGE BLUE DREAMS - SIMPLE MACHINE – VINYL

£25.00

12" Heavyweight Vinyl LP of The Strange Blue Dream's second album 'Simple Machine.

The Strange Blue Dreams second album “Simple Machine” sees them hone and expand upon the glorious retro-futuristic vision of their debut.  Aiming to create something both timeless and timely, the 10 songs explore the dreams, fears and follies of the human in the age of the algorithm.  Problems such as: how does one say anything in a deluge of communication and what is the relationship between football and affairs of the heart and more are addressed within. "Simple Machine" is produced by Johnny Smillie (Tenement and Temple, Thrum) which led to a "stunning collaboration"(R2 magazine) on Tenement & Temple’s sublime 2019 debut album.

Whereas the first album was recorded in a matter of days, guerilla style, the second saw them spend more time in the studio shaping the record.  The band still have the mind set of "being a little 5 man orchestra" as singer Dave Addison puts it, but this time their "band members as cogs in a machine" approach to constructing expansive arrangements for a 5 piece beat combo has been augmented by technology to help them continue to blend diverse influences as they plunder time and space. Vocal driven 60's girl group and beat group pop meets guitar maestros like Egyptian legend Omar Khorshid, surf king Dick Dale and Chet Atkins.  The Nashville Countrypolitan of Patsy Cline, Roy Orbison and the Everly Brothers mesh with early soul singles by the likes of Dyke & The Blazers and Doo Wop 45's. Studio creations of ghostly vocal groups and percussion created from factory spaces and machines have been blended with lap steels and barrel house pianos amidst "The SBD's otherworldy pop music" Vic Galloway, BBC
